Yesterday I started reading The Proverbs 31 Woman and let me say this I can see that this is going to be a good thing for me but there were a few things that didn't sit well with me. I instantly felt a conviction as I was reading it. It's never easy to realize that are things about yourself that need to change. I want to be a Proverbs 31 woman but I can see getting there isn't going to be a walk in the park. I'll be doing it a chapter a day and if I don't get it right I'll stay on that page until I do. I think this may be a challenge for me because I've never thought of myself as being virtuous (or needing to be a virtuous woman). I want to become a woman that my sons look at as an example of what kind of woman they want to marry ( and not just because I keep a clean house or cook a good meal) and a wife my husband has never known before. I'm clearly not perfect and never will be but I'm doing this to strive towards being a more Godly woman of virtue. Day 1 for me was "How to be a treasure to your husband" Proverbs 31:10 says "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies."
There are 10 traits of a noble character that it listed and I really struggle with having two of them. The first one is "she does not gossip or slander others" I by no means sit here and say awful things about others or say untrue things but I do know that sometimes talking out of fact or concern can quickly turn to gossip so I need to work on that. The second one is "She does not spend her days doing leisurely shopping, texting, emailing, web browsing, watching late night movies and sleeping in." I find that I spend a little too much time on the computer so I am going to start limiting the I spend online each day. I will be more efficient with my time and spend less of it just "browsing". I'm sticking with the first chapter again today because I feel like I need to spend more time in prayer about these things before moving on to the next chapter. So if you all would be praying for me as I begin my journey into becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman I would greatly appreciate it. Also if you are interested in doing The Proverbs 31 Woman One Virtue at a Time please let me know I will see what I can do about getting a copy. Thanks again for all of your support on the Life as a Mommy and a Wife facebook page!!
I'm so glad you are doing this! I'm also doing this, as my New Years resolution (but really, my forever resolution) is to be like the Proverbs 31 wife! What book are you reading? Is it written by Courtney from WomenLivingWell.org? If so, I've read it and it is fantastic! And I also struggle with the computer thing. Limiting my online time is one of my goals for the year. :)
ReplyDeleteI am doing the one from women living well. I don't really make resolutions (I never keep them if I do lol) so I just made a commitment to myself and God that I was going to do this. I think I downloaded it a few weeks ago and finally started it yesterday. Glad to know I'm not doing this alone :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I tagged you and linked to your blog today in this post on my blog. Don't feel obligated, but it can be a fun way to let your readers get to know you a little better. :)
