Being a Proverbs 31 Woman

Yesterday I started reading The Proverbs 31 Woman and let me say this I can see that this is going to be a good thing for me but there were a few things that didn't sit well with me. I instantly felt a conviction as I was reading it. It's never easy to realize that are things about yourself that need to change. I want to be a Proverbs 31 woman but I can see getting there isn't going to be a walk in the park. I'll be doing it a chapter a day and if I don't get it right I'll stay on that page until I do. I think this may be a challenge for me because I've never thought of myself as being virtuous (or needing to be a virtuous woman). I want to become a woman that my sons look at as an example of what kind of woman they want to marry ( and not just because I keep a clean house or cook a good meal) and a wife my husband has never known before.  I'm clearly not perfect and never will be but I'm doing this to strive towards being a more Godly woman of virtue. Day 1 for me was "How to be a treasure to your husband" Proverbs 31:10 says "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies."
There are 10 traits of a noble character that it listed and I really struggle with having two of them. The first one is "she does not gossip or slander others" I by no means sit here and say awful things about others or say untrue things but I do know that sometimes talking out of fact or concern can quickly turn to gossip so I need to work on that. The second one is "She does not spend her days doing leisurely shopping, texting, emailing, web browsing, watching late night movies and sleeping in." I find that I spend a little too much time on the computer so I am going to start limiting the I spend online each day. I will be more efficient with my time and spend less of it just "browsing". I'm sticking with the first chapter again today because I feel like I need to spend more time in prayer about these things before moving on to the next chapter. So if you all would be praying for me as I begin my journey into becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman I would greatly appreciate it. Also if you are interested in doing The Proverbs 31 Woman One Virtue at a Time please let me know I will see what I can do about getting a copy. A new year....

It seems like 2011 came and went in the blink of an eye. My year was full of changes for sure. We've had ups and downs good times and a few bad but through it all we've always been focused on God. We made a huge decision back in July for my husband to take a new job. For us it was huge because we were comfortable with his income and with 4 people to support you don't really want to do anything to jeopardize your income. So with a ton of prayers and long talks between Jason and I he decided to take the job. It has been a huge blessing to us. He loves his job (it is far less stressful than his old job) and we are far more secure financially now because of it. It's amazing how God will work when you step outside of your comfort zone. I look towards 2012 with excitement and wonder. I wonder what God will do next in our lives. How will He use me this year? How can I better serve others in 2012?
Recently I've been a more consistant volunteer in our church's nursery and its been something that has pulled me out of my comfort zone. Beleive it or not I'm rather socially awkward at times and I do tend to get nervous when I'm around people I don't know or having to do things that I've never done before. But being in there every Sunday and seeing the kids bond with me has really grabbed my heart. I've learned to be less anxious or nervous and I interact with my own boys differently. I've noticed my heart is so much more focused on God. My 4 year old has taken an even bigger interest in learning about God as well. We've always been a Christ centered home but now more so than ever.
I am very excited to see where God leads us this year and what he calls us to do. I hope I continue to grow in Christ even more than I did in 2011.  I hope that God continues to use me in ways that pull me from my comfort zone. I hope that I am able to be a blessing to others even if I never know it. I hope that everyone has a blessed year to come and I look forward to sharing my new year with you all.
